Former BYU and Arizona Cardinal quarterback Max Hall has taken plenty of hard hits in his career. Niether shoulder injuries or concussions kept him off the field. Quite simply he wanted to play. He was tough, often lying to doctors about his injuries. He found relief in OxyContin, alcohol, and even cocaine. As he battled his demons over the next few years he tried the strategy of mental toughness, something that worked for him in football. It was not enough. After his arrest for shoplifting, cocaine possession, and drug paraphernalia in August of 2014 he realized he needed to ask for help. Former BYU players and even a BYU professor reached out to help him find a treatment facility in Utah. In an interview with The Salt Lake Tribune he said “I couldn’t beat this thing on my own. I needed help.” Addiction is no respector of people. Regardless of how strong or tough you may be, don’t battle it alone. It’s not worth the risk. Ask for help! Stay Strong, Seek Help, and Say No!
