Caffeine is everywhere today. From outright energy drinks, to Starbucks brewed coffee, to pure caffeine powder there are more ways than ever before to consume caffeine. In the 1990’s CVS, Walgreens, and RiteAide put the local corner drug dealer out of business when they legitimized and commercialized the drug industry. They were the new pill pushers in America. Today coffee shops and convenience stores are selling America’s favorite drug Caffeine faster than ever.  I’m not a caffeine junkie which is why I never understood why people would stand in long lines and pay ridiculous prices for Starbucks products. Then it hit me, their addicts. When your an addict you’ll do anything and pay anything to get your fix. At the local 7/11 here in Florida a Red Bull energy drink was $4.99! Wow! They were selling 32 ounce fountain drinks for $1.29 but a Red Bull 20 ounce energy drink was nearly 400% more! Who would pay that? Hmm, an addict.  Now before you get all hot and bothered I’m not passing judgement on anybody. Like I’ve always said, we are all addicted to someone or something. And Caffeine addiction is out of control. To much caffeine causes anxiety, insomnia, and stress. It depletes magnesium, which helps fight anxiety. It stimulates production of adrenaline and cortisol, your stress hormones. It decreases your restorative and deep sleep stages. Think you don’t need much sleep or quality rest? Most governments use sleep deprivation as a form of torture. It makes you go bat shit crazy, so make sure you get plenty of quality sleep. Start paying attention to just how much caffeine your taking everyday. Most people need to reduce those levels, some by a significant amount. Kicking your caffeine habit might leave you irritable, depressed, and fatigued, but those symptoms will usually pass after a few days. After that you can look forward to better sleep, less anxiety, and lower stress. Stay Strong, Get Help, and Just Say No.
