It only takes ones person to use for the whole family to suffer. Addiction is a family disease, and so is recovery. People in recovery need the support of family members. It can be an awkward time for both. Feelings of guilt or a lack of trust are common. Resentment can occur as the addict focuses on recovery more than family. It will be tense at times. People will say the wrong things at the worst time. Communication is very important since both sides are operating in a new environment. Spend time creating then talking about your “rules of recovery” so everyone will be on the same page. Things will get better. You will get through this! Stay strong and keep saying no!
