The holidays can be a tough time for those in recovery. As part of your recovery program you’ve created a new environment and left old relationships. It can seem lonely at times, but you are not alone. Feeling lonely is one of the most common triggers for relapse along with hunger, anger, and fatigue. Recognize these triggers and take care of yourself both mentally and physically to keep them at bay. Studies show that these triggers often last 30 minutes or less so hold strong and let the urge pass. Take a walk, a shower, or just breathe.
The holidays will come and go but your recovery will last a lifetime. So keep focused on your recovery and well being.
