We regularly hear about the dangers of insomnia or too little sleep. Lack of sleep is linked to obesity, stroke, and heart disease. But oversleeping is also risky. It’s called hypersomnia and if your sleeping more than nine hours each day you may be at risk. Obesity, depression, diabetes, heart disease, and many other health problems are associated with “long sleeping”. The general rule of thumb is seven to nine hours each night. That’s the sweet spot for optimum health. So if your 25 year old who’s still living at home is sleeping 12 hours a day it’s time for some intervention. The problem won’t go away by itself. If you find yourself regularly sleeping more than nine hours each day go see your doctor.
